Stories from the Front Lines

US Coast Guard - Search and Rescue

Ann Henkelman, Lt. USCG (Ret)

The Lorain Boating Education Foundation is proud to present a talk by Ann Henkelman, Lt. USCG (ret.). Ms Henkelman served the Coast Guard as a helicopter pilot flying Search and Rescue (SAR) missions out of Air Station Detroit and Air Station New Orleans. She will regale the audience with stories of her service over Lake Erie and the Gulf of Mexico. Serving out of Air Station New Orleans she acted as Air Boss coordinating the air rescues of over 30,000 victims of Hurricane Katrina and responding to dozens of oil rig emergencies in the Gulf. Closer to home her posting to Detroit had her flying SAR over both Lakes Huron and Erie.

Ms Henkelman will tie her stories together with the underlying theme of what works and what doesn't in air rescue and how you can best help the Coast Guard should they come to rescue you.

The event is Saturday, July 31, 2021 at 7pm and is hosted at the Loraion Harbor Boat Club, 108 Alabama Ave, Lorain, Ohio 44053

The talk is free and open to the public. No tickets or reservations required. The event will be held outdoors -- please come dressed for the weather.
